  • Could you do with some powerful, highly-effective behaviour management strategies to help you all get back 'on-track' and succeed together as a family

Don't go anywhere! You've come to the right place!

Hi. My name is Davina Sharry. I am a Senior Teacher employed by the Queensland Government, and Children's Behaviour Management is my passion!

During the past 15 years working for both the government's 'Education Queensland' and for the Redbridge Council in London, I have spent much of my coordinating intervention programs and helping young children achieve the results they deserve with their self-management and behaviour.

In 2003, I began to consult with parents outside of school hours to help them with their parenting and behaviour management. My parents got together during this time and approached me about "writing some ideas down" so that they might have a resource they could refer to at home. It seemed like a harmless idea at the time! So in response to the request of these parents, I set out to take what was working effectively at school and develop a behaviour management program that would help parents achieve similar results with behaviour at home.

My goal was to teach my parents skilled behaviour management and show them how to prevent behaviour problems, rather than simply react to behaviour and punish children. I also wanted to show my parents how to gain back control over existing behaviour problems, and help children gain the skills they need to be socially competent.

Anyway... They were my goals....Soon into this 'writing' however, my notes turned into a small booklet, and then into a full-blown-major project as I decided to design a comprehensive Behaviour Management Program. I also decided I should write it in such a way that parents would no longer require my consultancy! Not great for a fledging consultancy business, but I wanted to ensure parents had a comprehensive resource that covered everything from communication, setting up the home environment to succeed and preventing problems right through to how to respond with meaningful consequences, build children's self esteem, teach for powerful behaviour, avoid toxic forms of behaviour management and establish quality relationships...

I wanted to uplift parents and show them how to gain back control over behaviour, as well as help children develop the skills they needed for behavioural success. And I wanted to show parents how to achieve this step-by-step!

I also wanted the program to be a long-term resource that would help parents with young children right through to older children in the upper primary school years; and be an effective regardless of the behaviours parents were dealing with. This was the key! Added to this, I wanted the program to be a parent-and-child training program rather than a 'child-only' or 'parent-only' training program, as this is the only way to ensure genuine change would take place...

"Having helped so many children achieve success with their behaviour at school, it is truly wonderful Powerful Parenting is now available for parents so they can achieve the same success at home!"

Why were all these principles so important?

To have a program that would be effective regardless of the ages or behaviours parents were dealing with, was crucial. Most behaviour programs have different procedures and strategies for different behaviours and ages. Many are academic or else only work for a short period of time. I really wanted an effective, one-size-fits-all program that was easy to understand, practical and could be a reliable resource for parents over many years. They were my goals... And it didn't seem like a hard job at the time!

To try and achieve all of this, I set about taking what was in my head, and what had proven so successful with children of all ages at school, and arranged them in a concise format. I'd be lying if I said it wasn't hard and I never felt like giving up (My own mother can attest to this as she got the phone calls!), but I was driven on by the fact that a lot of little children need this help, and a lot of parents are really struggling with behaviour that only seems to get worse. I also knew many parents felt very alone, with many educators struggling with behaviour as well.

Five long years later!

Yes, that's right! After five long years of hard work, literally thousands of hours alone at my desk and after all the illustrators, graphic artists, designers, editors, publishers, copywriters and a scary amount of money had all left, my program was finally set to go to work!

The Powerful Parenting™ Program

'Powerful Parenting–12 simple steps to behaviour success!' is the name of the behaviour management and parenting program and it's packed full of valuable information, crucial strategies and the 12 steps you need to make real and genuine change a reality.

I don't pull any punches...

My goal really was to challenge and inspire. My editors said the program was, "well-written and in easy-to-follow steps almost like you are sitting on the lounge beside the parent" - all of which made me very happy as this was one of my goals.

That's all great I hear you say, but does it work?

I can honestly say we are all so excited! There have been some truly amazing results! Testimonials from parents (and children) have been made available on this website.

Once parents begin the Powerful Parenting Program, they don't look back. Rather than being a program, Powerful Parenting is a new way of approaching behaviour and a new way of parenting.

As they make the strategies and techniques within the program their own, I usually don't hear from them again, unless to tell me about the changes taking place. I am excited as I can now help families to start over.

It is now my goal to work alongside my father, Lawrence Sharry and help as many little children and parents as I can...
